Pilot of L-159, Jas -39 Gripen

  • Demonstration of the impact of hypoxic hypoxia in hypobaric chamber at altitude of 25 000 feet, followed by decompression at higher speed
  • Check of actual orthostatic tolerance by means of lower body negative pressure (the LBNP - examination indicative of current tolerance to +Gz acceleration load)
  • Check of proper performance of anti-g maneuvers (straining and respiratory component)
  • Check of the efficiency of anti-g maneuvers in real LBNP load
  • Training of pressure breathing and communication techniques on a ground trainer (positive pressure of 30 mm Hg for 2 min.)
  • Training of pressure breathing and communication techniques in a hypobaric pressure chamber (positive pressure of 30 mm for 1 minute combined with the training of rapid decompression (from 8 000 to 43 000 feet)
  • Demonstration of GYRO-IPT II Aircrew Training System (free flight, inducing of selected illusions)

Duration: 2 working days (in case of complex examination for the issue of a Medical before the training 3 days)
Special requirements: pilot's own helmet and oxygen mask, medical book (documentation)

Prerequisite for completion of aeromedical training is a right current health status (adequate to the fitness for a routine flight). This means the compliance with the proper lifestyle before the AM training (adequate sleep and rest, light non-inflated breakfast, excluding of alcohol etc.)

For an AM Training you should come at 8 am to the IAM's Training and Expertise Division, which is located in the complex of the Central Military Hospital in Střešovice.

The course of AM Training:

  • Registration and control of medical documentation
  • Simple medical examination (by a nurse), interview, checking of blood pressure and heart rate, verification of functionality of Eustachian tube by means of tympanometry. Where appropriate, supplementary medical examination(internal, otoscopy)
  • Adapting of special high pressure suit from IAM's equipment
  • Theoretical training (Flight Surgeon): theory relevant to practical needs
  • Preparation for physiological data monitoring
  • Practical training and demonstrations
  • Analysis of the course of training and demonstrations and results of monitored physiological parameters (Flight Surgeon)
  • Conclusions (Flight Surgeon)
