Echocardiography

    Echocardiography is an ultrasound examination of the heart, wherein the movement and the condition of cardiac valves is illustrated in real time. By means of echocardiography also the size and conditions of single heart section - cardiac chambers, atria, atrial and ventricular septum, thickness of heart muscle and its capability to contract and expel the blood into the bloodstream may be assessed.

    In addition to the evaluation of heart valves structure and function the degree of valvular insufficiency or narrowing - thus the severity of the heart's endangering as a blood pump - can be determined.
